Getting to Welgevonden: Now Easier Than Ever

Reaching the wilderness has never been simpler. From December 2025, guests travelling to Tshwene Lodge and Ekuthuleni Lodge in Welgevonden Game Reserve will have even more convenient ways to arrive – whether by road or by air.

Travel by Air
From 1 December 2025, new Safari Link flights operated by Unique Air will offer direct per-seat transfers between Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport and Welgevonden Game Reserve’s private airstrip.

Operating three times a week – Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays – the flights depart OR Tambo around 11:30 and arrive in Welgevonden shortly after midday, perfectly timed for lodge check-ins. The return flights depart the reserve around 12:30, getting you back to Johannesburg early afternoon. It’s a fast, scenic, and effortless start to your safari – with the bush waiting for you just beyond the landing strip.

Flights can be booked directly by emailing our team at reservations@rareearth.co.za.

Travel by Road
If you prefer to take the scenic route, Welgevonden is just a three-hour drive from Johannesburg. The route winds through the picturesque Waterberg region and is well-suited to self-drive travellers or guests booking a private road transfer.

Drivers enter via the Main Gate, where lodge representatives meet guests for a short game drive transfer to their accommodation – your first taste of the reserve’s wildlife and wide-open views.

A Seamless Journey to Safari

Whether you fly or drive, your journey to Tshwene Lodge or Ekuthuleni Lodge now feels as effortless as the experience itself – an opportunity to step out of the everyday and into the wild, without losing a moment of your precious safari time.
